- I was one of those UK developers who nagged C= for the AGA hardware
- reference manual. Actually, it wasn't that dificult to get. I phoned John
- Campbell and asked if he could fax through the manual to me, he said 'No
- way', but immediately fed-ex'd it through to me, at C='s expense. (ahhh,
- the days when developer support meant developers got supported...)
-
- If the UK games companies hadn't got the AGA hardware docs there would
- have been no a1200 OR cd32 games (apart from a few card games, GnuChess
- and the inevitable updates to Megaball). C= were developing a shared
- games library (specialfx.library), but it was never finished, and by that
- time it was too late, everyone was bashing away at BPLCON4 and FMODE and
- creating great games..
-
- And if they hadn't got it? They'd have resorted to using 'unofficial' and
- in many cases incorrect AGA guides that started floating around the net
- at that time, or done what I did, bash the OS into the screenmode you
- want and disassemble the workbench copperlist to work out what values to
- use.
-
- As it is, the AGA manual was pretty basic. It didn't tell you how to
- calculate new diwstart/stop ddfstart/stop for high fmodes, for example.
- That you still had to guess (or steal out of a wb copperlist)...
